Anansi
Protect the people who make the words from the machines trained on them.
- Places
- 5
- Stipend
- Paid
- Closes
- 15 October 2026
What is breaking
- Models trained on writing nobody asked permission for, and nobody was paid for.
- Caribbean and African voices come out flattened, as caricature, or not at all.
- Work that paid a writer now goes to something cheaper that learned to sound like them.
- A writer who suspects theft has no way to prove it and nowhere to take it.
Your work
- Define consent and credit for training use.
- Build a route for a Caribbean writer to prove their work was taken.
- Set what publishers, festivals and broadcasters must disclose.
- Test it on working writers, not on theory.
The name
Anansi carried the stories from Ghana to the Caribbean. In the telling, he buys them from the sky god first, at a hard price. The stories had an owner and a value four hundred years before this argument started.
What you deliver
- 01Name the harm with Caribbean evidence, not borrowed evidence.
- 02Write something a regulator, ministry or publisher can adopt as written.
- 03Publish it with your name on it as an author.
- 04Put it in front of the people who decide.
Who applies
Writers, poets, spoken word artists, playwrights, songwriters, editors, literature students and graduates. No AI background needed.
One of the five places goes to someone living in a Caribbean country.

We read everything after 15 October 2026 and speak to the shortlist. You hear back either way.
The other two fellowshipsQuestions
How much is the stipend?+
Not set yet. You get the figure in writing before you are asked to accept a place, and you can turn it down then.
How long, and how many hours?+
Set with each cohort once the places are filled, so it works around exams and jobs. Regular meetings, work between them, assessments along the way. You see the full schedule before you accept.
Do I need an AI background?+
No. We need your subject knowledge. The AI is ours to teach.
Can I apply to more than one?+
Pick your strongest. If two genuinely fit, say so and we read you for both.
I am not in the Caribbean.+
Apply. One place in each fellowship is held for someone living in the region, the rest are open. Say how you connect to the work.
Is it remote?+
Meetings run online. Anything in person is optional and covered.
After the deadline?+
We read everything, shortlist, then speak to the shortlist. Everyone hears back.
