A Bahamian sloop at anchor in blue water, watercolour by Winslow Homer, 1899
Sloop, Nassau · Winslow Homer, 1899 · The Metropolitan Museum of Art (10.228.3)

What is breaking

  • A cloned voice moves money, and costs almost nothing to make.
  • Synthetic identities pass account checks built for paper.
  • Scams arrive in the right accent, naming the right bank.
  • Regulators have no specific rule to point at.

Your work

  • Draft regulation a Caribbean regulator can adopt as written.
  • Place liability when a deepfake clears a payment: bank, customer or vendor.
  • Set the floor for verification before money moves on a voice or a video.
  • Define what a targeted customer is owed.

The name

The cowrie was money across West Africa and the Caribbean for centuries, and held its value because you could not fake one. Money works only while people can tell the real thing from the copy.

What you deliver

  1. 01Name the harm with Caribbean evidence, not borrowed evidence.
  2. 02Write something a regulator, ministry or publisher can adopt as written.
  3. 03Publish it with your name on it as an author.
  4. 04Put it in front of the people who decide.

Who applies

Students, graduates and early-career people in finance, accounting, banking, economics, law, audit, risk or compliance. No AI background needed.

One of the five places goes to someone living in a Caribbean country.

Questions

How much is the stipend?+

Not set yet. You get the figure in writing before you are asked to accept a place, and you can turn it down then.

How long, and how many hours?+

Set with each cohort once the places are filled, so it works around exams and jobs. Regular meetings, work between them, assessments along the way. You see the full schedule before you accept.

Do I need an AI background?+

No. We need your subject knowledge. The AI is ours to teach.

Can I apply to more than one?+

Pick your strongest. If two genuinely fit, say so and we read you for both.

I am not in the Caribbean.+

Apply. One place in each fellowship is held for someone living in the region, the rest are open. Say how you connect to the work.

Is it remote?+

Meetings run online. Anything in person is optional and covered.

After the deadline?+

We read everything, shortlist, then speak to the shortlist. Everyone hears back.
